Living With Grief Part 5. How Does Emotional Shock Affect You!

In the St John's first aid course, we learn how to treat shock, we all have learned what to do from the medical direction. Not a lot is know about emotional shock and what to do to do. Many search not knowing what the problem is they searching for the answer. The only problem is that the person does not go back to there normal self, like they were before the trauma happened to them.

The main affect straight away is you feel like your energy has exploded and has disappeared off in every direction.

Symptoms of the signs of shock

  • The body starts shaking uncontrollable
  • Foggy head
  • Feel off balance
  • You want to sleep all day
  • Not hungry
  • You don't feel like talking
  • Numb, your feelings shut down
  • No interest in anything or doing anything 

What to look for in a person that is in shock

  • Difficult in organising themselves
  • They want to sleep all day
  • They want to be alone
  • Stare into nothing and not doing anything
  • Their eyes are glazey like nobody is home
  • No energy
  • Tasks, it too hard to do.
  • Nothing matter to this person
  • Stay home
  • Communication has stopped
  • Movement is minimum

There is the medical version of what shock is? You can read about medical type shock online and how it feels in your body. What I am talking about is very real.

Many will think they are depressed, have anxiety, mental ill, had a break down, on tablets, even worst than that may do har~m.

None of this is true!!!!

How do people get like this?

They been in an accident and are traumatized

  • You remember a lot about the lead up to the accident and the accident itself, then your mind can't remember anything about it after that, then the next thing you wake up in hospital.
     
  • News even on TV about children in a car accident
  • Becoming badly injured at a sports event and wake up in hospital

Lesser extreme

  • Being health and you fall and hurt your lower back and it will not stop hurting can't stand or sit down it hurts, everything is too painful and or you had it for a while everything you do make it worse, this is shock.  
  • Become ill internal body and sickness Cancer, stroke, heart attack and others
  • Something traumatic happens that you are unaware off
  • A family member dies
  • Financial Loss
  • You are way outside your normal comfort zone which is scary, excited almost too much.
  • Bad news can be a cause

Emotional shock you remember all the things that happened and  when you go back in your mind to where you were in an accident, the place where it happened, it can feel very calm but airy kind of feeling, a sense of excepting, that you know it to be true but question yourself where each person was, were there lights on or off these kinds of questions.

Questions you ask yourself, how could I have avoided this, I only went the end of the street.

What can you do if you have experienced shock?
