Would You Like To Know How To Get Rid of the Pins and Needles in Your Feet and Hands?

How Do We Get "Pins and Needles" In Our Hands and Feet?

Many times, people will experience a sensation that feels like "pins and needles" in their hands and feet. This comes from overloaded and fatigued muscles.

Can anyone get "pins and needles"?

Anyone that moves and has muscles – from little children all way to adults can experience this. The harder you exercise, the more you become stressed, if you experience some kind of a trauma, or if you have been in an accident,  the more likely you are to experience these problems much earlier in life.

What does it feel like?

It feels like tingling pain and numbness and it runs down the leg to our foot or down the arm to the hands. Always see your Doctor first as tingling down the arm is a symptom of a possible heart issue so don't just ignore it, get it checked out by your Doctor immediately.

Paying attention to this "tingling feeling" is important! Many of our clients come in with pins and needles in their hands from being on the computer and using the mouse all day. This is called overloading of the hands. Some of the other things that happen when your hands are overloaded are that your shoulders have to work harder. And when that happens, your neck gets tight and headaches are very common.

Why does this "pins and needles" feeling happen?

Continued exercise and working with no massage allows our muscles to tighten. Aches, pain and cramping are early signs of muscle "matting" problems and the possibility of experiencing "pins and needles" increases.

Is it a bones, physio or acupuncture thing?

It happens when our muscles get very tight. If you can image that your bones are like a coat hanger. It holds our physical shape while our muscles move and do all the work that our mind tells them to do. Our brain tells the muscles to hold us up straight. They give us the strength to lift ourselves out of the chair. They allow us to get out of bed in the morning and to stand up straight and walk around all day.

Often if the treatment you are having is not making much of a difference, it is a muscle problem.

Is exercise good for the muscles?

Yes many people use exercise to release stress which ok. But, often they do more and more until the body gets "pins and needles". One single injury can prevent you from continuing long term. As the muscle get tighter it pulls the bones out of line. This pinches and restricts the blood and nerves from doing their job. Without the bones we would be a blob on the floor.

What can we do about it?

What we found after working with hundreds of clients and our own families,  is that when the matted muscles start to restrict movement, remedial massage opens the fibres of the muscle and releases the  knots within the muscle to allow the blood to flow easily once again, allowing all the muscles to start working together again. The pain goes away and people are much happier. When we are in pain, we are not all that easy to be around. Pain affects us and those around us on a physical and emotional level.

Massage is used on a regular bases to calm anxiety and to help us feel good all the time. The more knotted your muscles, the weaker you become. Core strength will not return from exercising or other activities. The "pins and needles" feelings and pain restrictions are intensified, all stemming from the use of our muscles. The longer you have the problem the more matted your muscles become.

As the bones grow in children, the muscles don't grow at the same rate, so the muscle starts to pull into the joints on each end of the muscle. This causes tremendous tightness in our children's backs, necks, legs and feet. As our children become more stressed due to the pain they are experiencing, the greater the possibility they will have behavior problems.

Remedial massage is important to the overall wellness of your children.

We invite you to come to Chelsea Massage and start making those changes for your body and your children's bodies before it is too late, so you can get back to normal, strong, pain free, easy movement and finally enjoy a comfortable, good night's sleep.

Reiki

Reiki is an ancient Japanese technique that reduces stress, promotes relaxation and healing. It can help release and re-balance the emotional or energetic blocks associated with pain and illness.

Rather than focusing on treating the symptoms of a disease, Reiki works on the causes.

Through the use of universal life-energy, Reiki heals by supporting an individual’s innate biological and spiritual processes. It’s a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing.

Reiki is a holistic treatment that includes body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects of relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

Reiki works on our “life force energy” that flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If our “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger Point therapy is used to locate acute sources of pain or latent, unnoticed until pressure is applied by the practitioner. Trigger Points are manifested as small contraction knots in the muscles that control the state of contraction and active ones may cause muscle spasm and referred pain.

Treatment consists of hands and massage. A firm digital finger pressure is applied to locate the specific points causing pain and restricted movement and these may often be located in places different to where the client actually feels the pain is felt. Trigger Point Therapy is sometimes incorporated with Sports Massage.

Conditions that will benefit from Trigger Point Therapy include:

  • Chronic sports injuries
  • Headaches- muscles in the upper back, neck and shoulder cause weaken and pulling causes headaches
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • TMJ- muscle in the jaw, chewing gum can weaken and tighten muscle
  • Neck and Jaw Pain
  • Stress and fatigue
  • Overloading and continue working while in pain and hoping it will go away.
  • Environment negativity
  • Scoliosis
